Analysis of flow induced crystallization: from theory to experimental classification

Jan van Meerveld

Institute of Polymers, ETH Zurich

The flow induced crystallization model as developed and discussed in previous talks is analyzed for transient uniaxial and shear flows. In the discussion the following points are adressed:
- validaty of the model and open questions
- the contribution of orientation and stretching of the polymer chain under different flow conditions and types
- sensitivity the principal parameters in the model (reptation time, Rouse time, number of entanglements, maximum stretch ratio and temperature)
- difference in flow type on the nucleation dynamics
- what rheological parameters scale well with the nucleation dynamics and which do not.

Finally an approach is given to classify flow induced crystallization experiments in a sensible way.
