Nonequilibrium transport phenomena and phase transitions in deterministic polygonal billiard system

In this talk, results about the deterministic dynamics of N point particles moving at constant speed in a 2D polygonal billiard will be presented and discussed. The billiard is structured as a pair of polygonal urns connected by an active rectangular channel, which applies a feedback-control on the particles. This mechanism works by inverting the horizontal component of the particles velocities when their number in the channel exceeds a fixed threshold. An additional passive channel closes the billiard table forming a circuit in which a stationary current may flow. Large N limit allows nonequilibrium phase transitions between homogeneous and inhomogeneous phases, depending on initial conditions and system parameters. A probabilistic theory is developed and discussed, with particular focus on the effect of rational and irrational urns. Finally, the comparison between theoretical and numerical simulation results is presented.
