Workshop on Parallel Programming with MPI ========================================= Thursday/Friday 14/15 October, 1999 09:00 - 17:00 RZ F21 (Clausiusstrasse 59) ETH Zuerich --- Please register by sending Email to Friedli@awu.id.ethz.ch --- The workshop is free and is under the guidance of Michael M. Resch, Head of Parallel Computing Department High Performance Computing Center (HLRS) Stuttgart. The aim of this workshop is to give an introduction into the programming of parallel computers using the message passing standard MPI. Since 1994 this standard interface has gained dramatically in support and usage and has replaced PVM. Even more important, MPI makes sure that programs developed on one platform can easily be ported to any other platform. In this workshop users will get an introduction into the basic functionality of MPI1.0. Hands-on sessions (in Fortran) will allow to better understand the theory presented and to get the right feeling for a parallel computer. The course will be mixed with presentation of software tools that support parallel program development. Copies of the slides used in the talks will be handed out to the participants. Talks: - An Introduction to MPI - Sending messages - Different ways of sending messages - VAMPIR Performance analysis - Global Communication - Derived data type - Topologies - Groups and Communicators Practical sessions on computer: - Learning how to write, compile, link and run a very simple MPI program - Learning how to exchange messages in a parallel program - Variations of message exchange. Benchmarking for latency and bandwidth - Using global communication - Using derived data types - Using topologies - Using groups and communicators ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Armin Friedli Email: Friedli@awu.id.ethz.ch Informatikdienste - Anwenderunterstuetzung http://www.awu.id.ethz.ch/ ETH Zentrum, RZ Telephone: 41 1 632 3440 CH-8092 Zurich, Switzerland Telefax: 41 1 632 1312 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
