Kinetic Equations for Vehicular Traffic: Theory and Applications

P. Nelson

Texas A M University

Kinetic theory is a mathematical theory that allows one to construct fluid-dynamical equations from microscopic (i.e. particle-based) equations. In traffic, the results of this are typically Burgers-like or Navier-Stokes-like equations. Since there is no group at ETHZ specializing in kinetic theory (or I can't find it), I will ask the speaker to make the presentation as close to a tutorial as possible.
