Entropic Lattice Boltzmann Method for Large Scale Turbulence Simulations

The lattice Boltzmann method was formulated for the fully resolved simulation of the hydrodynamics. For many industrial application of the method related to the turbulent flows, a fully resolved simulation is neither feasible nor needed. However, the usual formulation of the method is numerically unstable when a unresolved simulation of the turbulent flows is performed.

Recently, the minimal entropic formulation of the method was proposed. The method is non linearly stable and can perform unresolved simulations. For practical applications of the method, it is important to know how accurate are the unresolved simulations?

In this presentation, I will describe the simulation scheme in details and vpresent the simulation results of the two dimensional decaying turbulence. For the verification, results will be compared with the spectral simulation of Navier Stokes equation. Results of simulations will be used to discuss the accuracy of the unresolved simulations.er, the usual formulation of the method is
