Quantum Monte Carlo calculation for a large number of bosons in a harmonic trap

Markus Holzmann

ENS Paris

We present a precise quantum Monte Carlo calculation at finite temperature for a large number of bosons in a harmonic trap. The simulation applies directly to the recent experiments of Bose-Einstein condensation of atomic vapors in magnetic traps. Furthermore the results can be used for a precise test of analytical approaches like the Hartree-Fock and the Bogoliubov approximations. Various static properties like the density profiles, correlation functions, and the critical temperature are studied quantitatively.
